Welcome home, said my husband with a smile even as I entered the house at the end of the day.
Thanks. But why this sudden greeting, I haven't been away for weeks or months, have I? I said feeling a little guilty that I left the man to fend for himself the whole day which was unlike me.
Well, how did the seminar go off? Did the speakers have anything new to say? he asked.
Yes and no, I said.
Why this ambiguity? he said.
Let me be more explicit. The day seems to have started with surprises and ended with surprises, I said.
Why don't you tell me the gist of what each speaker said, he asked appearing quite interested.
There was this educationist who admitted that education has become synonymous with commercialisation and that the actual learning happens outside the school or college.
Well, that's true and everyone knows about this fact, said my husband.
Then the person from the medical profession reeled out all the malpractices that are taking place and how the poor patients have become victims of these practices.
The bureaucrat was also candid for once when he said their image among the public needs to be improved.
The journalist said their tribe claims that power rests with them by virtue of their profession and high connections and make empty promises.
I don't find anything surprising about what they have all said, remarked my husband.
Well, I am surprised because all the speakers not only seem to be aware of what was happening in their profession but also don't seem to have any qualms about admitting the truth for once, I said.
That explains my YES.
And what do you mean by NO? he asked raising his eyebrows.
Only that the speakers could not offer any solutions or remedial measures, I said.
