Did you have a nice time at your friend's
party, asked my husband.
Well, I found it was a party with a
difference, I said.
In what way was it different? Was the crowd
too hep for your comfort, he said knowing that I felt like a
fish out of water in such a gathering.
Not exactly, it was a mixed crowd. I couldn't
disappoint my close friend, you see, when she invited me for
lunch to celebrate her granddaughter's first birthday, I said.
What was the menu like, he asked and I could
sense the eagerness in his voice.
Don't worry, nothing that you would have
relished, it was mostly a Chinese and Mexican spread, I said.
So, I didn't miss much, he said
disinterestedly.
Then what was so different about the party?
It must have been like any other party you normally attend where
you women exchange notes about the latest in sarees and
jewellery, he remarked.
No, there was no time for that because half
the time the guests were found sleepy and drowsy, I said.
Probably the guests had one too many. I
didn't know birthday lunches included cocktails as well, he said
appearing surprised.
No there were no cocktails, yet strangely
though there were a few senior citizens among the guests it was
the younger lot who appeared sleepy and drowsy, I said.
What do you mean?
Well, they are all working in BPOs! I said.
