What have you learnt in the session you
attended? asked my husband soon after I came home from the three
hour session on Etiquette.
Quite a lot, I said, the sweet voice of the
speaker still ringing in my ears.
Why don't you tell me a few of the 'dos' and
'donts' she has listed? he said.
I found the lady had a new approach
altogether. She started with the 'donts'. Please don’t switch
off your mobiles as I can understand how important they are to
you “ she emphasized. She even suggested we could start a long
conversation on “nothing in particular” if we wanted to.
That’s strange, she appears to be a queer
person , observed my husband.
Wait, they are more surprises, I said and
noticed him coming closer to me all ears.
This is how the listing went and let me just
repeat the points verbatim, I stated trying to recollect every
word of hers.
Whoever wishes to leave the hall during the
session can do so without as much as by your leave.
While I am speaking ,don’t hesitate to engage
yourselves in cross talk if you so wish .
The lady appears to be off her head, butted
in my husband before I could continue.
Sit comfortably in your chairs even if it
means encroaching on your neighbour’s space.
Now, I think you must be off your head to
have sat through such nonsense, quipped my husband.
Have patience please and let me finish ,I
insisted.
You could bellow into the mike if you want to
convince people of what is being said, just like politicians do.
I f you have any questions or doubts to
clarify, please interrupt me .I shall be happy to answer them.
You mean to say you people sat through all
this gibberish for three hours, enquired he in all his
seriousness.
We had to, because we had no other
alternative.
O.K. what are the 'dos' she had mentioned, he
asked ,his voice trailing off.
Now you have asked a very pertinent question
and I too did the same getting tired of listening only to the 'donts',
I said.
You better come out with it fast and I hope
she said something sensible, he remarked.
Yes. Please do stay for the twelve course
lunch which follows the session and collect your certificates of
participation , she concluded entreating us.
