N Meera Raghavendra Rao

N Meera Raghavendra Rao is a freelance journalist with over two decades' standing in the field. A postgraduate in English literature, she qualified herself in journalism from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's college, Chennai, and holds a certificate in Public Relations and Public Speaking from the same institution, (she stood first in both these courses).

She is a prolific writer and has published more than 1000 articles in mainstream newspapers and journals. Her forays into journalistic writing began with a letter to the editor published in 'Femina', a woman's magazine, followed by one in 'Eve's Weekly', (now extinct) for which she won the first prize. This inspired her to pursue writing in a serious way and she started contributing short stories for children to 'Champak' (a children's magazine), interviews, features, travelogues, humour and satire, middles, book reviews, etc., to mainstream newspapers like 'The Hindu' and 'Indian Express', and magazines like 'Femina', 'Alive', and 'Woman's Era'.

She also writes to Chennai-based magazines like 'Eve's Touch' and 'HRD Times'. Though she likes writing of every kind mentioned above, Meera says she particularly enjoys writing in a lighter vein , looking at the lighter side of life and laugh at our own little foibles. She teaches the paper on writing for the media at the college she studied in. She is also exposed to the electronic media where she has interviewed several leading personalities which were broadcast/telecast over All India Radio and TV during prime slot.

Meera loves travelling and has visited Western Europe, Australia, Malaysia and Sri Lanka besides most parts of India. She makes it a point to share her experience with readers, about the place and the people she meets.

Meera's book, titled 'Madras Mosaic', published by Parity Paperbacks, New Delhi, was launched by the Madras Book Club on November 29, 2005. The book, which is a social satire on life and people of Madras, has received rave reviews in the press and has gone into second print.
