Rajaravivarma's play
Alliance Francaise of Madras and Magic Lantern present
K R Rajaravivarma in 'An Actor's Chaos' at AFA auditorium on Friday, 14th, Saturday, 15th and Sunday, 16th May at 1900 hrs.
A 1hr- 10mn long reflection on his career through five pieces: Practice (solo), Machine (solo), Compassion (with M George), Koothu (solo) and Life (with KS Karuna Prasad and M George).
These are short studies based on workshops, classes and performing experiences over the last 11 years. Every piece is linked with narration, and every narration is preceded by an intervention, either
music, sound, or another actor.
K S Karuna Prasad and M George join Ravi, not only in the key roles of actor/musician, but are intrepidly woven into his 'life spaces', having been his colleagues for many years.
Ravi, a member of
Koothu-P-Pattarai for more than a decade, has
received a Ph.D from Madras
University. Besides his vast experience in acting, he has conducted numerous workshops, trained actors, directed and assisted in a number of productions, and presented many academic papers. He is well-known for his skill in the martial arts and folk forms.
"After a journey of 11 years with a leading Tamil theatre group on Chennai, I feel the necessity for a moment of introspection.
Who, where, and why am 1 here? As an actor, I often identify myself with a street tightrope walker, who survives purely with his/her skill. Over the years, my ambitions have changed and I have a new inspiration. Now, I do not believe that perfection is the only important factor in a performance. There must always be space for exploration. 'An Actor's Chaos' explores my experience in life, workshop and theatre through five short pieces."
