An artist, an icon

Narashimulu

Very little is known about Narashimulu, the 28-year-old artist suffering from cerebral palsy who gets around on a small platform with wheels and creates landscapes that are absolutely flawless with fine lines and intricate details in his fairly steady feet.

Hotel Savera is playing host to an exhibition of 50 priceless Narashimulu’s collections at the Yoga Centre Lawn in the hotel premises. Art lovers dropped in to see the exhibition which was inaugurated on June 10, 2004. Some of them bought these collections, the proceeds of which will go to the artist to further the noble cause of recognising and rewarding the achievements of the physically challenged.

"When we heard about Narashimulu, we felt his talent will influence his future, which has to be brought out to the public domain. Hotel Savera has always stood by its social commitments and we certainly want to do this Art Exhibition to bring Narashimulu within the reach of art patrons,” said A Ravikumar Reddy, MD, Savera Hotels Ltd.

S Ramalinga, Narashimulu’s Co-ordinator, said, “Narashimulu is really talented and genuinely interested in art. Since the tender age of just 1 ˝ months. Narashimulu has been the inmate of IPD, Andhra Mahila Sabha and with the help of intensive physiotherapy and constant support from his beloved Angamma Teacher, Narashimulu slowly learnt to use his upper and lower limbs. Unable to use his hands, he learnt the art of using his feet and today, Narashimulu can draw and write with both his lower limbs, predominantly using his right lower limb. Arena Multimedia, Vadapalani, provided Narashimulu with a PC and a multimedia course at no cost. Availing this opportunity, he has created a number of art images using the PC with his limbs”.

Speaking on this first-of-this-kind initiative adopted by Hotel Savera, Nina Reddy, Executive Director said, “Yoga Centre is an extended arm of Hotel Savera’s corporate strategy to include add-ons to our discerning guest and also we have in mind to use this space for good causes, when required. When the proposal was brought to the Board we immediately agreed to it considering the exposure it will provide Narashimulu. Moreover, we understand that there are many more who may require the same and Hotel Savera will hold many such programmes in future to support the physically challenged. We are sure this consideration will go a long way in changing the lives of the physically challenged and we are glad that Hotel Savera is playing a definite role towards this endeavour”.
