I sit down in the sofa wrapped in layers of
warm clothing, the TV on in the background someone reviewing the
happenings of the year and merry light twinkling at the
neighbor’s yard. It is officially the end of the year. It is the
time we make new resolutions, look back into the past year and,
of course, have fun.
And as I sit between my brother and husband
laughing at something silly and stupid, the warm air from the
heater filling the house, I think about the past 360 days and
wonder about the coming ones. My brother comments something
funny and I double with laughter yet again, for the nth time
today and I realize there is no other special way to welcome the
New Year - the warm and fuzzy feeling one gets when surrounded
by loved ones.
I realize the only resolution I need to make
for this year and all the years to come is to spend more time
with loved ones, take time off to make memories and laugh my
heart out. The rest of life will fall into place by itself as it
does often. And in the pursuit of so-called higher things in
life, we forget our support system, our personal cheering squads
– our families!
And now looking back at my 2007, I really
don’t have any complaints; the year was a good one. I had some
accomplishments personally and professionally. I also made time
to pursue my interests in dancing and writing which I am quite
proud of! I traveled quite a bit this year, visiting family and
friends and made new friends. Seems like a perfect year but for
some down moments that happen to be trivial now that I think
about them.
My 2008 resolutions or dreams, I am lost
here. Of course, the vain me can think of petty resolutions! But
I am content, life is good and I am grateful for every single
thing. I look forward to 2008 with a smile and the one thing I
really want to do this year is to be more environmentally aware
and try to reduce my carbon footprint!
And to everyone, wishing you a wonderful
2008. Hope your 2008 is filled with family, friends, fun,
happiness and all things that mean the world to you. Happiness
Always!
