Why we need girlfriends
The song 'Girlfriend.. '('Boys') and the movie 'Mugavari' weren't made without purpose. Like most songs and movies, they had a definite purpose - and explained the need of a 'girlfriend' for every guy.
Barring the 'bad antics' of the teenagers in the 'Girlfriend' song, barring the one unnecessary fight in 'Mugavari', both had a definite meaning, a definite intention. And I fully endorse it, that every guy should have a girlfriend.
It is obvious that the youth of today have set themselves high goals. They may dance wild on hearing a rock number, but they seem equally at ease in solving problems using, say, the Rowan method. They may sit all day watching Sachin and Sehwag on a song, but are as serious when they sit down to solve Symmetry problems.
That's the point here - we study, we strive a lot, and so need just a little bit more to make our dreams come true, just that little bit of inspiration - from a girlfriend.
Girlfriends solve many problems as they get into the skin of a guide with utmost ease. If you're not studying well, they boost you with encouraging words. If your shoulders are drooping and you are completely out of confidence, they have the power of lifting it up to great heights with one phone call.
They do create some problems too - some mental tension, some thin wallets and high phone and petrol bills. But then, isn't there's a head and tail in every coin?
'Girlfriend' here does not necessarily mean a romantic fling, the term 'girlfriend' in this context could be anyone. It could be any girl - the really romantic cho-chweet sweetheart you adore, the girl pal of yours who SMSes you daily, the 'always correct and mature' cousin who cares for you, the pretty girl next door who smiles at you every now and then - anybody. It's just the whiff of fresh and encouraging words that we need.
We guys need you, girls. We need you to pat our shoulders and tell us that 'we can'. We all have a little spark in us that can turn into a raging fire and achieve everything we dream of. And we need you to mould this fire properly and channelise it in the right direction.
