The Sunday blah-blah
The evening was pleasant. Getting together with old friends can be a very good experience. That was what I did Sunday evening-and played a game of cricket.
Sunday evenings are real time-occupiers. Somehow they consume your time in one way or the other.
From watching Tamil films to watching F1 races, from interacting with Mylapore Mamis in the bustling market to catching good breeze on the sands of Marina and Bessie, they steal your time. But theres nothing better than an engaging game of cricket, especially in the 3-5 p.m. slot.
Our cricket game ended like every other tennis ball local games end; you start playing seriously, then the game trails off, and you start chatting, forgetting all about the game.
We officially 'called it a day', and went to a place and started talking. Where? Well, Somasundaram ground. That 'kutti savur' where you talk 'vetti
kadhal'.
Yes, Boys- style we perched on that small wall and started chatting.
Movies seem to be the first thing on our
minds. ”What a stupid guy that actor Vijay is. His gimmicks in 'Thirumalai' is exasperating, and Arjun's 'Ottran' is pure nonsense”, quipped a pal.
Obviously furious with this comment, another pal, a Tamil film buff,
said, ”Dei, you see all unbelievable action like flying in the air, etc., in English films like 'The Matrix', so why cant you accept that here?”
F rom 'Pithamagan' to 'The Italian Job', from 'Anjaneya' to 'Kal Ho Na Ho'; every film was discussed and analysed in detail (reminds you of Madans 'Thiraipaarvai' on Vijay TV?). Film directors could have got a handful of subjects to choose from had they heard us talking.
As I mentioned earlier, all this tinsel town talk happened on the 'kutti suvar' at Somasundaram ground, T Nagar, similar to
'Boys'. Sadly, there wasnt any Harini around!
