Shocked into fun
Shocked? Spellbound? Scintillating? Superb? Stupid? Sore? Semma bore? Sucks?
These were the conflicting questions one had to ask after witnessing 'Shock 2003' - a western dance competition conducted by Spell Bound, the dance company, at Music Academy December 7.
In all, 14 teams participated in this gala event for 10 minutes each. Slick team names like Shadows, Too Cool, The Untouchables were among the list.
Some of the dance numbers were extremely good and the team members, in dazzling costumes, coordinated well with their members and kept up the beat. There was a bit of athletics with the dances too, and that got the crowd cheering. So, was it a good dance show?
Well, it was.
Some of the dances were horrendous, the team members stiff, feet movement not in tune with the music, the dancers themselves looked amateurish and made a fool of themselves. So, was it a bad dance show?
Well, it was.
“It was a mixture of good and bad dance. Some of 'em were nice to look at and others were rubbish. Even I could have shaken a leg better than those rubbish ones,” quipped Alex, in a T-shirt that exposed his bulging muscles.
But fun it was. Fun-loving rogues upstairs in the hall danced on their seats, much to the delight of their peers, much to the dismay of some lathi-wielding securitymen. College students shouted themselves hoarse, devouring the visual treat that was on offer.
The lighting was really good (it's a surprise how those uneducated (?) light boys show their creative and intelligence skills while lighting up the dances); the music was passable (the numbers played were popular ones); and the audience were really the best of the lot, turning out in good numbers, in all shapes, sizes,
clothes...:)
On the whole an evening of music, fun, bird-watching; with dance thrown in.
