The freedom season
Isai vizha. Kutcheri khazana. These are 'hot' words today. Come December, come music concerts and festivals. It's that 'buzz'ing time of the year when people go bonkers about music.
So, as you may all be wondering; what do the youth have with this December season? Ain't the youth into rap and pop rather than classical and Carnatic? Yeah, they are... But, here's a cool list for the youth on what to do in this December music season:
1. Enjoy at home. Parents and grandparents, mostly with season tickets, go to every concert they hear about. It's Home Alone time. So have great fun staying at home.
2. Freak out. You can come home late as parents are out at a kutcheri. Eat out. Parents are anyway too busy with the
kutcheris.
3. The phone. No bugging parents ordering you to stop those endless chats over phone. Put the phone to good use and achieve a record high telephone bill!
4. The Net. Chat without any disturbance to strangers and friends alike; no elders to question you. Flirt, fool around, get serious, mean business!
5. Last, but definitely not the least, go to the kutcheris yourself! It could well be an absorbing three hours of soul-lifting music, and you could well enjoy it. The rising number of young kutcheri-goers in sabhas these days are a definite indicator that the youth haven't forgotten Carnatic music.
But don't even think of competing with Governor P S Ramamohan Rao: He has been busy inaugurating one sabha festival after another and handing out one award after another!
