Adelaide magic
Elation, exultation. Jubilation, joy. Great happiness. You could just go on and on in ecstasy, with an air of pride that India has won.
Ah, what a victory! It was way back in 1981 that India won against Australia in Australia. Youngsters like me curse ourselves for not having been born then; that match, it seems, was equally good.
Ah, what a victory! Two batsmen at the crease. One a fierce prose writer, writing hard within the limits and displaying hard facts: Dravid. The other, a fascinating poetry writer, one who loves frills, innovations and creativity, playing around in ease with similies and alliterations:
Laxman.
These two blended as well as poetry and prose could and the result was a wonderfully-woven tale; the tale of a mixture of science and art, a mixture of logic and innovation, a mixture of solidarity and simplicity; and finally, an amazing mixture of towering temperament and teasing talent.
Ajit Agarkar. That slim-as-a-stump bowler whose form ranges from a hapless duck to a roaring lion, was the lion at Adelaide. He roared in style, brought down the Aussies like cycles falling in a cycle stand. The bowler in Tendulkar remains an enigma, reminding us of “that magical hour at Eden”; here in Adelaide too his wicket of Martyn was the turning point.
Now that the Adelaide Test has been won by India; it's still hard to digest: the feeling hasn't yet sunk in. Cricket-lovers all over the nation are still pinching each other to see if it is all real.
Ah, what a historic victory! This victory heralds a new era: an era where so-called “invincibles” can fall, an era where a hardworking Jerry can definitely hope to defeat an overconfident Tom, an era where temperament and toughness, self-belief and commitment, if present even in weak teams, can sparkle off many a victory.
Let this era continue and excite everybody to the pinnacle of their fantasies, making the impossible, possible.
