Saveetha Medical & Educational Trust was founded in the year 1985 with the aim to provide medical relief to the poor and to promote education and research.
As a part of the activities of the Trust, ‘Saveetha Hospital’ was started at Erode, with the most modern and sophisticated equipments and all the sociality departments which cater to the poor and middle class people in and around Erode District. The President of the Trust who is also a dental surgeon and having observed the shortcomings of the existing dental colleges, thought it will be appropriate to start a model dental college with all necessary infrastructure within a single campus. With this idea, Saveetha Dental College & Hospitals was started in the year 1988. Subsequently the School of Nursing at Erode and College of Nursing was established in the year 1992, the College of Physiotherapy was started in 1993, Diploma in Dental Mechanics and Dental Technician was started in 1997, College of Occupational therapy was started in 1998 and Engineering College was started in 2001.
Saveetha Dental College is one of the premier institutions in India offering B.D.S. and M.D.S., Dental Mechanics and Hygienists courses and training for MFDS Examinations by Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, U.K. It is also an examination centre for Part A and Part B MFDS Examinations conducted by the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Glasgow. The college is affiliated to The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University and permitted by the Govt. of Tamil Nadu and Govt. of India, recognized by the Dental Council of India, and by Sri Lankan Medical Council. The college is also actively involved in conducting various research activities. It is also recognized by the Department of Science and Technology of the Govt. of India.
THE COLLGEE
Saveetha Dental College and Hospitals was established by the Saveetha Medical and Educational Trust in 1988 at Chennai on National Highway No.4 at the commencement of the Bangalore Bye-pass Road. This institute is located in a serene and calm atmosphere within the bounds of Chennai metropolis with proximity to the domestic and international airports (15 km) as well as railway stations (14 km) and the harbour (15 km). The beautiful landscape of the sprawling campus is spread over a stretch of 15 acres of land. The aesthetic and architectural design of the magnificent buildings, the ultra modern and high tech auditorium and convention center, sophisticated and the state of the art equipments, the luxurious infrastructural facilities, the dedicated and devoted team of faculty and interested and motivated students constitute a rare, happy and harmonious blend here.

The objectives of the dental faculty:
The objectives of the dental degree programme cover all aspects of attaining a high standard of education. They are lucid and clearly stated and provide a high ideal for the educational programme of the institution and encompass all activities related to continuous improvement and betterment of the institution.

The objectives serve well in providing a guide to planning for the future keeping in mind the changing field of global dentistry. The objectives are taken into consideration before the planning of any educational programme and development so that they are in concordance with the goals of the program. The committee comprising the governing council, academic committee and scientific committee are involved in the formulation of the mission and objectives of the faculty and review the objectives periodically. A revision of the objectives will be considered if there is sufficient cause necessitating a change. The review committee is urged to constantly assess the developments of the faculty and identify newer areas that can be brought under the objectives.
The most important goal of the programme is to mould the student to be an exemplary citizen in the society with excellent knowledge and selfless service to the under privileged sections of the society maintaining a strict discipline personally as well as professionally. |
