Enthusiastic
volunteers from Standard Chartered Bank, Scope and Isha Foundation
worked with hundreds of students in and around Chennai, to spread
the Green message to over 1 lakh people. Standard Chartered Bank and
Scope International Pvt Ltd. partnered Isha Foundation in their
`Project Green Hands’, to create environmental awareness and
distribute more than 20,000 saplings. Today’s function was to
recognize the efforts of school children in this initiative and
highlight the significant milestones achieved.
The Chief Guests at the function were Neeraj Swaroop, Regional CEO,
India and South Asia, Standard Chartered Bank; and Edwin Nevis,
Group Head, Scope International. Neeraj
Swaroop presented the trophy for creating the maximum awareness to
Maria Nivas Matriculation Higher Secondary School and the trophy for
planting the maximum number of saplings to Holy Angels Anglo Indian
Higher Secondary School. The five top schools and 42 other
participating schools received certificates in recognition of their
efforts.
Speaking
on the occasion, Neeraj Swaroop said: “Standard Chartered and Scope
have established an excellent record in their effort at increasing
the environmental awareness in the community through sustainable and
long term programmes. We are proud to see what our volunteers have
accomplished in tandem with school students.”
This green initiative is closely
aligned to Standard Chartered Group’s Sustainability agenda. The
agenda focuses on building a sustainable business which enhances the
economic development of the countries it operates in and has a
positive impact on the environment and society. The Group wants to
be recognised as a responsible business and corporate citizen in the
communities in which it operates.
