Population
explosion and short sighted policies of politicians had increased
the gap between the poor and rich. The divide has contributed enough
for global warming and its damage to the environment will be
colossal if it is not curtailed. Excess money with the affluent
people is spent for frequent globe trotting, not for the sake of
business but for sheer pleasure. Lavish spending, having too many
cars and vulgar exhibition of wealth often influence common man also
to indulge in spending, thanks to the newfound consumerism gripping the middle class, which ultimately
leads to increase in per capita carbon emission.
State also didn't perform effectively
in preventing the damage. It has allowed low cost airlines but not
done much for Public transportation system. So people preferred cars
and planes, instead of trains, as they are comparably comfortable
and faster. It didn't encourage its citizens to utilize renewable
energy sources for domestic purposes and running solar powered
automotives, may be for the reason that rich people want to move
fast which the renewable energy sources can't provide at the present
moment. So carbon rationing alone can deter the rich from arrogant
showcasing of their wealth and also prevent global warming. It is time to act for environmental enthusiasts all over the world,
in what ever possible way, to preserve the nature for the future. Dr. Kumaran Appuchami
