Rediff.com India Ltd (Nasdaq: REDF), one of the premier worldwide online providers of news, information, communication, entertainment and shopping services, has announced the launch of Rediffmail 1GB effective 2000 hours IST on June 17, 2004, giving virtually unlimited storage space of 1 gigabyte to all its free e-mail users in India and worldwide. With immediate effect, Rediffmail users will also be able to send in a single e-mail a message of size up to 10 megabytes.

Earlier this year, Rediff.com had launched Rediffmail with enhanced security and feature-rich add-ons. Rediffmail users already enjoy a simple-to-use, fast and secured experience. Rediffmail is secured with an exclusive spam shield and enables one to write e-mails in 11 Indian languages.

Rediff.com will also start freeing up over 15 million e-mail addresses that have not been in use over the years, giving new users a better chance of finding an e-mail ID of their choice. For the premium paid users, Rediffmail Plus and Rediffmail Mobile, the storage space available will be 2GB each. The storage previously available with Rediffmail was 5 MB and the mail message size 1 MB. For the paid Rediffmail Plus and Rediffmail Mobile users, storage was 10 MB and the mail message size 5 MB.

"Our endeavour has always been to provide Rediffmail users with continued innovations and product enhancements,” said Ajit Balakrishnan, chairman & CEO, Rediff.com. “Rediffmail 1GB is a reality and available today, ahead of any other e-mail service available in the world, particularly for the Indian e-mail user. Users no longer have to worry about deleting mail to stay within the storage limit. They can instead keep all the mails they want, for as long as they like.”

Rediffmail 1GB innovations include:

Largest storage space with increased attachment capacity: Will provide virtually unlimited storage space of 1 gigabyte. Single e-mail can take a message size up to 10 megabytes. Sending and receiving heavy files up to 10 MB benefits users who want to mail photos, music collections, business presentations and other large attachments.

More address options for opening of e-mail accounts, as a result of over 15 million e-mail addresses to be made available.

The extensively tested and proven spam filter, featuring multiple standard spam detection and elimination methods, checks for known spamming techniques that keep unwanted mails from reaching the users' inbox.

The new Rediffmail provides users the option to write mails in 11 Indian languages with special emoticons and a rich-text facility. Features include a new print-mail facility and an automatic reply option among others. It also gives users the flexibility to buy additional storage, POP3 service and 'SMS packs' as per individual requirements.
