Shaadi.com launches chat

Shaadi.com, the largest matrimonial services provider with more than two million registered members, and 1 lakh-plus success stories, has launched its very own messenger, the Shaadi.com Messenger, which helps match-seekers chat with potential partners online.

Shaadi.com has invested about 3,000 man-hours to fully develop the messenger in-house, using Flash technology.

Founded in 1997, Shaadi.com has quickly become one of the largest Internet companies in India and has created an entirely new industry - online matchmaking. A unique concept, the site is a boon to individuals looking at widening their search for a life partner. The site helps individuals and parents search for a potential match from an ever-increasing database of prospects from all over the world.

The introduction of Shaadi.com Messenger is a first of its kind service from Shaadi.com in the online matrimonial space. This unique new feature allows Shaadi.com members chat with prospective partners live and enhances their partner search experience.

Unlike most common messengers on the net, the Shaadi.com Messenger does not need to be downloaded. When a Shaadi.com member is online, she/he receives chat requests from others via the messenger. The member can then view the detailed profile of those requesting to chat, and thereby accept or decline the request.

All Shaadi.com members can receive chat requests. Premium members can also initiate chats with other members. To facilitate such chats, the messenger is tightly integrated with 'Who's Online' search, which instantly gives a list of all members currently available for chat.

Shaadi.com customers have welcomed this new feature with open arms - rather, fingers! Since its launch, everyday, over thousands of members type their way on the messenger, chatting with and short-listing potential partners.

Says Anupam Mittal, president & CEO of People Group, which owns Shaadi.com, "Member interaction on Shaadi.com is evolving on the lines of the telegraph/telecom industry. We have Contact Lens, a digest of responses sent to members' mailboxes (akin to the telegram). Then, we came up with Shaadi Pager, which relays responses to members whenever they are online (akin to the telecom pager). And now, we have Shaadi.com Messenger, which allows members to chat online (akin to the mobile phone). And the best part of this evolution is that all Shaadi.com members - whether free or paid - are able to enjoy the benefits. This, in a sense, is how technology as a whole should - or at least is expected to - evolve anyways!"
