Microsoft tech camp
Indicom Software and Services, Microsoft and RMK Engineering College are jointly organising a residential technology camp from January 20 and 25, at RMK Engineering College, Kavaraipettai, near Chennai.
First of its kind in India, the camp sessions start at 5.30 a.m. and will last till 10.30 p.m. everyday. A total of 30 participants from various colleges in Tamil Nadu will attend
TechCamp.
The participants should possess good programming skills and knowledge of C, C++, VB, Java and the registration is being limited to one student per college on a first-come-first-served basis.
Microsoft will conduct an intensive crash course on Microsoft .NET technologies during the first three days, at the high-end .NET mobile computing lab established at RMK Engineering College, by Indicom software and services.
This will be followed by project development by the students. A case study or problem will be given to the students who will work in groups of 10 teams with three participants each. TechCamp will expose students to mobile computing and will give them an opportunity to develop applications, which will be ported on to mobile devices like Tablet PCs, PDAs and
Smartphones.
On the last day, an expert team will evaluate the projects and the winning team will be recognised as .NET TechCamp Champs and also given prizes. Certificates will be given to all participants.
The participants will also be given intensive training in yoga, management skills and personality development to ensure a holistic approach. Senior management trainers and professionals from the industry will visit the students and impart soft skills training.
RMK Engineering College, recognised for quality, discipline and also acknowledged as one of the most hospitable institutions in the country, will be hosting the students who will be provided all residential facilities.
R S Munirathinam, chairman, RMK Engineering College, will be chief guest for the inaugural. Prof R M Vasagam, Vice-Chancellor of MGR Deemed University, who was a source of inspiration to formulate the Indicom programme, would be the chief guest for the valedictory.
The TechCamp format has received tremendous response from senior academicians who believe that students will get the best training and also have an opportunity to work on a live project with the support of Microsoft mentors.
This training-cum-project development exposure will enhance their placement possibilities, especially in industries working on mobile computing. The soft skills sessions too will give them an additional edge. Indicom Software proposes to roll out similar programmes in several other institutions in summer and also in the following academic year and is confident of receiving continued support from Microsoft and also other top software vendors.
