 Airtel fixed wireless phone launched
Airtel, India's leading telecom services provider, has announced the launch of 'Airtel Mega' fixed wireless phone (FWP) services in
Chennai.

Nadu.
Swaminathan said Airtel Mega fulfilled the customer needs for an innovative home phone service with the advantages of instant availability, feature-rich instruments and mobility within the premises. This service comes with the additional benefit of a unique after-sales service model. With the launch of this innovative FWP service, Airtel completes its total telecom services portfolio for all segments.
It operates on the GSM network. Available in Postpaid and Prepaid tariff plans, it will be rolIed out progressively across the length and breadth of Airtel's wireless network, which spans virtually the entire urban landscape plus over 10,000 vilIages in Tamil
Nadu.
Going beyond the conventional offerings of a fixed line, Airtel Mega brings to customers special value-added services including Hello Tunes, SMS, Caller ID and all other services that Airtel has pioneered in the last few years, Swaminathan said.
This bouquet of features is backed up by a 24-hour customer care facility and any complaint from a customer will be addressed by the service team at the customer's premises, which will bring the power and convenience of Airtel to every home in Tamil Nadu.
With respect to instruments, customers can choose from three sleek European-styled phone models in both desktop and cordless versions, said B Mahesh Thampi, chief operating officer, Bharti Televentures Ltd, Chennai.
In today's situation, where the mobile market is growing much faster than fixed line and more calls are made to mobiles than fixed lines, Airtel offers its customers 'Mega' value whereby calls to all local and intra-circle mobiles is charged at Rs 1.20 for three minutes (effectively 40 paise per minute). A slew of introductory offers has been announced as part of the launch.
* Free 150 minutes of calling every month to one Airtel mobile/Airtel landline. Offer valid for a full year from the date of installation.
* Free 50 local and national SMS in the first month of subscription.
* Free Hello Tunes subscription in the first month plus one Hello Tune free.
* Lower entry cost for existing Airtel Postpaid customers
Swaminathan said, "The fixed line market in India is currently underserved (especially in smaller towns and villages), largely on account of inadequate infrastructure. Through Airtel Mega we intend to make available home phones to all customers within 'arm's reach of desire'. While our mobile service endeavours to deliver an Airtel in every hand, through Airtel Mega we will now endeavour to deliver an Airtel in every home. This innovative home phone service will help Airtel create a special place in millions of homes across the state of Tamil Nadu by offering a complete package of services across the telecom spectrum."
