Force10 Networks, the pioneer in building and securing high performance networks, has announced the expansion of its Chennai-based research and development centre to strategically support the development of advanced switching, routing and security products. "Over the last year, we have continued to develop our research and development centre as a base for strategic engineering support that will allow us to deliver more complete end-to-end networking solutions to our customers,” said Sachi Sambandan, vice-president of engineering at Force10 Networks. "As we expand our product portfolio to broaden our market focus, the talent of our Chennai team will be a crucial component to our success moving forward."

Nearly 90 per cent of employees in Force10’s Chennai development centre are engineers focused on developing and testing software and hardware for the Force10 S-Series family of access switches as well as the P-Series family of security appliances. In addition, Force10’s Chennai-based research and development centre provides strategic support for the development of next generation application specific integrated circuits (ASICs).

Chennai is also home to Force10’s Asia-Pacific technical assistance centre (TAC) that serves customers throughout the region, including in Korea, China, Japan and Australia. With a growing number of global customers and deployments, the Chennai TAC is critical to supporting customers' service and support needs in real time.

To further support sales growth throughout the region, Force10 recently appointed Gary Jackson vice-president of Asia-Pacific Sales. Jackson has more than 20 years of sales experience throughout South-East Asia. Prior to joining Force10, he worked as regional vice-president for EMC, where he ran sales in 10 countries and was responsible for $ 300 million in revenue. During his tenure, EMC increased its market share by 5 per cent. Earlier, he served as regional general manager and vice-president for Cisco with responsibility for $ 900 million in revenue.

The Force10 TeraScale E-Series family of switch/routers delivers the density and resiliency high performance networks require to ensure predictable performance as traffic increases. Throughout the Asia-Pacific region, Force10 has built some of the most advanced networks in the world.

At Baidu, the TeraScale E-Series delivers the seamless scalability required to power the largest search engine in China. The TeraScale E-Series also anchors the networks of leading online gaming companies such as SEGA, Neowiz, Nexon and NCsoft.

For service providers such as Hanaro Telecom, CDNetworks, BIGLOBE and NTT-ME, the TeraScale E-Series delivers carrier class reliability at Ethernet economics, enabling higher profit margins.
