Bioinformatics training partnership
Sai's Biosciences Research Institute (SBRI) on November 6, 2006, signed an MoU with US-based Accelrys Software for an exclusive bioinformatics training partnership.
Announcing this at a press conference in Chennai, D Malathi, technical director of SBRI, said the partnership would enable biologists and IT professionals to work together and draw new insights to
bioinformatics.
It was aimed at bridging the industry-academia divide, she said. SBRI, which has centres in Chennai and Erode, would expand to Madurai soon, she added.
Under the SBRI-Accelrys training programme, students can obtain postgraduate diplomas in bioinformatics, cheminformatics and drug designing, besides diploma in CAD and certificate programmes in genome and proteome analysis and molecular modelling and simulation.
Niels Nielsen, senior director of Accelrys, said people from south India contributed significantly to scientific research. The partnership would increase the momentum in quality of life science education and research, he added. (Agencies)
