As
the programmes and projects of NGOs expand, the need for funds to sustain their
operations becomes all the more critical. Training workshops on Fund Raising and
communication are major vehicles for assisting these NGOs in fund-raising
capacity building.
Oxfam India and the Centre For
Social Initiative and Management (CSIM) is organising a fund-raising workshop
for NGOs titled 'Fund-raising & Effective Communication Strategies for NGOs'
from the 23rd to 27th June 2004 at Asha Nivas, 9, Rutland Gate, Nungambakkam,
Chennai -34.
Oxfam India is a leading relief
and community development organisation working in India for over 25 years. It
supports communities affected by disasters as well as communities struggling to
overcome injustice and poverty. Oxfam India believes that empowering the people
is the best way to work, for even if the funds are exhausted and support is
over, empowered people know how to take care of themselves. It supports
grassroot organisations started by social activists and strengthen their
capacities and support their work so that they are able to achieve their
objectives with greater efficiency.
The Centre for Social
Initiative & Management is a learning centre with its focus on grooming
Social Entrepreneurs, who will build micro enterprises all over the country. It
conducts a One-year Post-graduate Diploma in Social Initiatives &
Management. The course methodology integrates Business school approach using
live projects and case studies with practice schools for hands-on-training. It
provides scope for mentoring, networking with NGOs for Project Planning and
Management and consistent exposure at the grassroots level. CSIM also offers
Consultancy services to existing NGOs and builds their entrepreneurial
capacities through regular training and capacity building workshops.
This
workshop is first of the series of workshops to strengthen the communication
skills of NGOs all over India and aims to teach basic skills for effectively
drafting annual reports, brochures, direct mailers, proposals and press
releases.
The course guides organisations
through alternative means of maximizing donations, utilisation of financial
instruments and sound fund management. The resource personnel include
professional fund-raisers, representatives of leading publishing houses, funding
agencies and the corporate sector.
