Nice and dangerous
Recently,
a new woman criminal, has been striking Chennai residents with an entirely new technique. Like the biscuit bandits who offer chemical-coated biscuits
to their fellow train passengers and rob them when they swoon in their seats,
this new bandit queen targets affluent persons and by offering some eatables
or juice and making them swoon. She then escapes with the booty.
Financier Bothra has
been running a finance company at Sowcarpet, near Chennai Central station. A
good-looking and well-dressed woman came to his office in the guise of looking
for a job, she created good rapport with the financier. The financier
asked the woman to come the next day and he would try and offer her a job.
The next day she came with some
'payasam' in a small vessel and offered it to the financier stating that it was her birthday.
Believing her, the financier drank the payasam and
swooned after sometime. The woman removed the diamond ring, worth about Rs 7
lakh along with Rs 2 lakh in cash from his office and
disappeared. The police have
registered a case and investigations are on to nab the woman criminal.
A few days after the incident,
another case with a similar modus operandi was reported from a place in north
Chennai. This time the victim was a old woman named Varalakshmi, residing at
Villivakkam with her son and daughter-in-law. She was all alone at home during
the day.
The family had earlier advertised
about letting out a part of the house. Armed with this information, a good-looking young
woman had
come to the house, a few days ago, when Varalakshmi was alone during the day, and
said she was looking for a house for her
sister. She introduced herself as a nurse working in Stanley Hospital
in north Chennai.
When the old woman took her
around the portion that was to be let out, the stranger became friendly and made
a survey of the house and gathered details
of where the family members were working and when they would be back.
Varalakshmi also
conversationally told the woman that she was suffering from acute diabetes and
tuberculosis. As the woman had introduced herself as a nurse, she consoled the
woman, saying diabetes can be cured easily and that she would bring the medicine when she
came the next time.
After a few days, the woman had
come back conveniently on a working day during the day time. She had brought some
vegetables along with her and she told Varalakshmi that she would make a
juice out of the vegetables to cure her diabetes.
Believing the woman,
Varalakshmi had allowed her to make the vegetable juice in the mixer and
immediately after drinking the juice, she swooned. The woman criminal took away 100 sovereigns of
gold jewels from the steel bureau and escaped. The
family members returned only at 9.30 p.m. and till then the woman remained unconscious.
Police have spread the dragnet for the new
bandit queen.
It cannot be ascertained
whether the two crimes were committed by the same woman criminal or by two
different women. But in both cases, the criminal had offered juice
to make the victims swoon. In both the cases, by taking details from the victims, policemen have been making portraits in the computer and no
definite clue has been obtained, so far, regarding the involvement of same
agency in the two different crimes.
Even the fingerprint clues
do not
corroborate the involvement of the same women in both the crimes. Crime
history reveals that there were a few women criminals who committed such
offences. But those criminals targeted only men who were alone at home and would
entice them with sex. They would then decamp with the jewels.
But the modus operandi in this
case has been new. A few months ago, a few women criminal had targeted hospitals and by deceiving
relatives of patients, they robbed their
jewels. Police are investigating this angle also.
So, an unknown young woman who
comes alone could be dangerous. Beware when you face such women as they may be
criminals targeting your property.
