It is stated in the scriptures that the Lord is 'Gana Priya' and 'Gana Lolla' (one who is easily moved by music). The Indian epics, The Ramayana and the Mahabharata are full of examples to illustrate this. It is said that the Demon King Ravana, who incidentally was a great devotee of Lord Shiva, sang the Sama Veda to Him, and was rewarded!
Music moves millions. All religions practised in the world have some form of music intertwined in their prayer ritual. It is probably with this in mind that S N Prabhu and A C Dinakaran came out with a beautiful collection of devotional songs.
Prabhu and Dinakaran, who were closely associated with M S Vishwanathan, recently came out with two CDs titled 'Arul Tharum Daivamgal' and 'Sarvam Sai Ram'.
Arul Tharum Daivamgal was a one-year project by Prabhu, whose intense love for music came out in this form, his first published composition. The second CD, a compilation of famous Bhajans extracted from the 'Bhajanavalli,' sung by devotees of Sathya Sai Baba, is rather a sudden out crop while working on Arul Tharum Daivamgal, but set on a totally different music score than on the usual Sai Bhajan style. It has a flow of Bhakti, Bhavam and
Anandham.
Some of the famous Bhajans selected are:
Vigna Vinayaka
Aaoo, Aaoo…
Mohana Sai
Prabhu Tum
Matha Pitha
Arul Tharum Daivmgal was composed by Prabhu with the music set by Sri
Dinakaran.
The actual production of the CDs was just a 48-hour effort, with the recording done in barely 16 hours, but the result is unimaginably good.
Prabhu, a software engineer has great love for music and has performed in various programmes covering both light music and semi-classical. At an early age he used to accompany his father, Sri Sivarama Bhagavathar during pujas, where he used to sing bhajans. He lives with his wife, Lalitha Prabhu, who he says is his greatest inspiration, and two daughters in San Jose, California.
Dinakaran is a pioneer in music direction. His field of interest lies in devotional music.
