The premiere of Margazhi Raagam was held
recently at Sathyam Cinemas which saw many singers from the Classical music
fraternity. Conceptualized and directed by Jayendra Panchapakesan, Founding
Director of Real Image Media Technologies, Margazhi Raagam is produced by
Aghal Films. Digital Cinema as a pioneer has bought the first ever Carnatic
music concert in the form of a movie to the silver screen. A cord of
masterminds like P.C.Sreeram and H.Sridhar have lent their creative talents
into this production. This 110 minute concert has Bombay Jayashri and
T.M.Krishna starring in it.
The stars of the show Bombay Jayashri and T.M.Krishna were seen as a
perfect host to all the guests there. Celebrities like Unni Krishnan and his
wife Priya Unni Krishnan, Krish Srikanth, Y.G.Mahendra and his wife, Singer
Srinivas, P.C.Sreeram, Shobha Chandrasekhar and others were present at the
premiere.
When asked Y.G.Mahendra of what he feels about a film taken exclusively
for music he says, "I think we are going back to the olden days where movies
were taken with Carnatic music as its base and. Now days, the kuthu paatu
has come into trend and I call it a nonsense. But now I feel happy as a film
for music has come and this will be a step ahead towards the right direction
of music." Till now, if one wants to hear classical music, he had to go to
concerts, but now, Margazhi Raagam has created a place for both music and
cinema lovers.
Margazhi Raagam has many firsts to its credit- a seven camera shoot using
the latest RED Digital Cinema Cameras, live sound capture mixed in 5.1
digital surround sound at a THX certified mix stage to name a few. All set
to be released in Blu-ray, DVD and audio CD in 6 track surround sound, it is
also the first classical music concert to be shot in 4K and post produced
entirely digitally using these 4K images as the source.
Says Mr.G.Narayanan, Executive Director, Indian Overseas Bank, who are
the sponsors for this movie, "The whole concept of Margazhi Raagam sounded
very unique to me and this genre has not been done in the past, so that was
the driving reason which made me sponsor Margazhi Raagam. This will be the
pioneer towards music films and I hope everybody will like it."
