The curtain raiser was a navaraghamaika varnam -Valachi in two speeds
followed by an invocation to Lord Ganesha -Vatapi in hamsadhwani by
Muthuswamy Dikshitar. The Niraval Pranavaswaroopa was replete with the
shades of the raga. He plunged into a volley of swaras which heightened the
grandeur of the kriti. He sang paeans to his guru Chembai Vaidyanatha
Bhagavathar -Pavanaguru in Hamsanandhi. He felt it apt to pay obeisance and
thus he rendered this song

Sarasamadana in Kapi Narayani by Thyagaraja was rendered with vim and
vigour. The piece de resistance was Upacharamu in bhairavi by the bard of
Thiruvaiyaru Thyagaraja. The elaborate delineation of the raga was
delectable and he portrayed a Himalayan landscape of the raga. His Sancharas
and Sangatis spoke of his virtuosity. His Niraval and a cascade of swaras
captured the quintessence of the raga and was an intense intellectual
exercise.
Mahadeva Sharma on the violin mirrored the vocalist phrase
by phrase with vivacity.
Harikumar on the mridangam was elegant and
played deftly. Thirupoonithura Radhakrishnan ghatam eschewed flamboyance and
showcased his creative skill. The tani of Harikumar and Radhakrishnan was a
treat to be savored and the duo captured the audience with their animated
tani.
