Every woman wants to look beautiful and in direct proportion to this want, the beauty business is booming in Chennai. Apart from big names like Kanya, Lakme, Fair and Lovely, and other beauty houses, smaller ones are mushrooming in every street corner. All the assistants working in these parlours are locals who have attended some short-term or long-term beauty courses.
There are a few million beauty schools which offer courses ranging from a few weeks to diplomas which take about a year to complete. Each of these beauty schools claim to offer excellent courses which will enable you to do business in this field. However, the conditions of many of these schools are very bad. There are basically two kinds of beauty parlours, those which are run by thorough professionals where ironically the owners are never present and the local beauty houses which are small & cramped with one worker, usually the owner. There is a third kind of beauty facility which is fast catching up and it is these which are run from home.
