| Fashion World 2003
The Junior Agarwal Mahila Mandal (JAMM) has organised a two-day event, Fashion World 2003, in Chennai from September 8 to create awareness among Chennaivasis, especially the younger generation, about ancient forms and designs in jewellery, attire and furnishings.
The event is being held at Hotel Park Sheraton and is open to the public.
Speaking at the inauguration, Arti Bagdy, President, JAMM, said, "We are committed to revive ancient forms of culture and make a fashion statement which is also affordable by and large. We intend to connect the people to the origins of traditional Indian fashion. We plan to make it an annual feature in Chennai. The funds raised through the event will be donated to social causes and projects in association with local NGOs for the most needy, the economically and socially challenged people."
Twenty stalls have been put up by niche designers from different parts of the country. On view are exquisite sarees and dresses by Modi from Kolkata, Alankrit's from Lucknow, Saroj Dugar from Jaipur, Kanta Khemani from Hyderabad, Pummy Walia from Mumbai, Rinaldi designs for shoes and handbags from Mumbai, Vastrini, Stich 'N' Fix, Aarvee Creations and Sankriti from
Chennai.
Exclusive designer jewellery in diamond and semi-precious stones by Rakyan's and Sushma Bhattar from Delhi and Lashya Jewellers from Mumbai will be on display. Milano of Bangalore will showcase world-class home furnishings and Rishi Banga of Delhi displayed Chinese linen.
An American auction was also held to raise funds through sale of some exquisitely designed
sarees.
The Mandal was formed in 1995 under the auspices of the Agarwal Sabha. It has a membership of 60 women from the affluent Agarwal community.
