Started by three catering institute graduates of Eden fame, Jelly Belly is a delicatessen, which also has a range of salads and sandwiches. Modeled like a kitchen, with cookbooks stacked in one corner and wooden spoons and utensils in another corner of the counter, colourful and delicately patterned crockery all make the place look very attractive. To lend the right touch of informality, kitchenware and knick-knacks are arranged on shelves clearly in view of the customer.

Some of the mouth-watering desserts include mousse, not only in simple chocolate but also in exotic kiwi, jack fruit, custard apple, and strawberry. These creamy concoctions melt in your mouth and you will be sighing in ecstasy within seconds. Another in-house specialty is the cheesecake, which come in sinfully rich chocolate. Apart from these confections, they also have quiche - a baked mushroom dish topped with mayonnaise and cheese. And of course, the inevitable salad bar, where the veggies are kept and you can pick and choose them for your salad, with two kinds of dressings in the offing - one that is the bland mayonnaise and the other spicy vinegar.

This delicatessen seats around 20 people at one time and has become so popular that every night, anywhere from 50 to 75 covers are done. They have a steady stream of youngsters but families too drop in regularly for an after-meal sweetmeat. Their customer base does not only include residents of Besant Nagar, but also people from as far as Anna Nagar and Velachery drop in to indulge in these delicacies. If you don't feel like sitting in the deli and tucking into your sumptuous cheese cake, you could just ask them to pack it for you and pack they will, in hygienic aluminium foiled wraps - if you want you could take it to nearby Elliot's beach and eat it under the stars!
