Get set for travel
Welcome back. Hope you had a nice time pondering over last week’s article. Travel to any place can be made worthwhile, with good planning.
1.Study about the place that you want to travel to. These days information is available in abundance over the Net. And this is the most essential. This helps you to plan your visit.
2.If you are not a honeymoon couple, then it is better to book yourself in one of the tours offered by several tour operators.
3.If you are a honeymooning couple, it is better to take a private vehicle, if available, and mainly if it is safe to do so in that place. This not only gives you privacy but also the freedom to explore the place at your own leisure.
4.When you are travelling with a family, ensure that you carry eatables that can last a day or two. Chapattis, dosais, pickles, the Gujarathi dry chapatti available in shops, called teplas and kakras, are ideal. This way you can save on the cost of food, which can easily run to Rs 200 per meal for a family of four. So, if you are planning a three-day trip you have saved on food for at least one day.
5.This also ensures that you have enough time for seeing the place, instead of spending time waiting at busy hotels packed with tourists in the morning rush hour. You can always eat the stuff you have and go sightseeing.
6.We also make the grand mistake of spending money on eating in every place we go to. Yes, which wife would like to cook on a holiday? But these ready-to-eat stuff, once made, are easy to carry, and are actually not much of a strain. Spend on the place you are visiting and save spending on the food. If you are in
Kerala, don’t think twice about watching an entertainment show which interests you or indulge in the hot oil massage that it is famous for. After all, you are not going to go there again to experience these. Your culinary desires can always be satisfied at your local Saravana Bhavan hotel. But to save on food costs please don’t go to a local eatery that is not hygienic.
7.Also carry snacks like mixtures, sweets so that you can munch while travelling. In a tourist place everything is expensive. It also saves you the bother of hunting for shops to buy eatables when you are
travelling.
8.If you are travelling with kids who wear diapers, ensure that you have enough of these. Especially in a place like India, where these are essential.
9.Study the best time to travel to the place. Take proper clothes according to the climatic conditions of the place.
10.Above all, remember to have a good time and make the best use of the place.
Time to pack our bags again. Time for me to leave my family, friends and loved ones to fly to the US with my hubby. Not before a brief stopover at Singapore and a visit to the famous Sentosa Islands, next Monday.
