According to officials, the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) will start running buses from these temporary terminals from today.

The Island Grounds terminal was built by the Greater Chennai Corporation at a cost of Rs 8.44 crore. It is spread over 10,713 square meters, measuring 280 meters long and 38 meters wide.

The terminal has 34 bus bays and can handle 73 bus routes. Around 526 buses will run daily, serving nearly 1 lakh passengers.

Facilities at the terminal include:

60 benches for waiting passengers

Separate toilets for men, women, disabled, and trans persons

Drinking water kiosks

Staff dining areas

Police rooms for security

Ticket counters

15 small shops

Parking space for 150 two-wheelers

These temporary terminals ensure that commuters can travel easily while the Broadway bus terminus is being renovated.

At the airport, Modi was welcomed by AIADMK general secretary Edappadi Palaniswami, along with other party leaders and local officials.

From Chennai, the Prime Minister is expected to travel to Maduranthakam by helicopter. A large public meeting has been organized there to showcase the NDA’s support and momentum in the state.

The rally is seen as a key event for the NDA to connect with voters, present their agenda, and boost their campaign ahead of the elections. Authorities have made arrangements to ensure smooth movement and security during the Prime Minister’s visit.

The Greater Chennai City Police and Chengalpattu Police have worked together to plan detailed security measures.

Some of the key steps include:

Heavy vehicles will not be allowed on the Chennai–Tindivanam GST Road to prevent traffic congestion near the venue.

Drones and other unmanned aerial vehicles are strictly prohibited in the area to avoid security risks.

About 3,500 police personnel will be deployed at the meeting venue to manage the crowd and maintain order.

A seven-tier security system has been set up to handle different levels of safety, from traffic management to personal security for the Prime Minister.

Authorities have asked people attending the event to follow police instructions carefully and avoid carrying prohibited items, such as large bags or restricted electronic devices.

Officials have also advised the public to plan their travel in advance and expect traffic diversions around the venue. The arrangements aim to make the event safe and smooth for everyone present.

The incident happened on a WestJet flight to Mazatlán International Airport (MZT). Dave Rogers, a resident of Alberta and a military veteran, said the flight attendant’s actions in the last moments before landing left him humiliated and upset.

Rogers added that the flight itself went smoothly, even though it had stormy weather during takeoff, and that the cabin service had been friendly and pleasant until the incident.

Biomass co-firing is a process where thermal power plants use a mix of
coal and biomass as fuel to reduce pollution and promote renewable energy.
According to the APP, while the plants made efforts to meet the targets,
challenges such as insufficient supply of biomass and operational limitations
made it difficult to achieve the required levels.

The APP also highlighted that certain technical requirements, especially for
plants using specific types of equipment like ball and tube mills, add to the
complexity of co-firing. They called for better support and development of
the domestic biomass market to help plants meet future targets effectively.

The association’s statement comes amid scrutiny from regulators and environmental
authorities, as thermal power plants play a major role in energy production and
emissions management in the country.

Chennai: With overcrowding and uncontrolled growth putting pressure on Tamil Nadu’s
popular hill stations, the state is updating its tourism plan. TTDC has started projects
to introduce organized camping and glamping at three hill destinations—Jawadhu Hills,
Vathalmalai, Kolli Hills, and Yelagiri. However, private operators say proper coordination
with other departments is needed to make these projects successful.

Although artificial recharge shafts have been installed before, the WRD’s
State Ground and Surface Water Resources Data Centre will now carry out the
project on a much larger scale to improve the groundwater table.

A Division Bench of Justices S.M. Subramaniam and Mohammed Shaffiq said,
“The eco-park will serve many purposes. First, it will help reduce the risk
of flooding, which the city faces more with each monsoon. Second, it is
important to address air pollution and improve the Air Quality Index (AQI),
which is a key reason for creating the eco-park.”
