The movie starts in a village near Andipatti, introducing Rokkapuli (Sarathkumar),
a ruffian-cum-messiah. He turns to violence and ganja smuggling after being forced
out of his village and losing his livelihood due to the dam construction in the
Vaigai River. Later, we see a young Pandi, who becomes an orphan when both his
parents die from debts caused by the dam project.

As an adult, Pandi (Shanmuga Pandian Vijayakant) joins Rokkapuli and adopts a life
of lawlessness. Rokkapuli becomes the only family Pandi has left. Together, they
challenge the law, try to make money, and protect their villagers. Their journey
is full of dangers and crimes.

Viewers can’t help but compare Kombuseevi to Ponram’s 2013 film Varuthapadatha
Valibar Sangam. That film handled a serious topic like honour killing but stayed
consistent in tone and didn’t try to push a message too heavily. Kombuseevi, however,
struggles to balance a serious issue with comic scenes. It tries to be both entertaining
and meaningful, but the mix doesn’t fully succeed, leaving the story weaker than it
could have been.

However, some audiences and Suriya fans still say they enjoyed the film. Recently, on social
media, many argued that the film did not deserve so much trolling.

Now, after many years, Anjaan is getting a re-edited re-release. The new version is shorter,
trimmed to 2 hours. While re-releases usually include colour correction, sound improvements,
and technical fixes, this version goes further — scenes have been shuffled, sequences moved,
and the film’s structure changed. Viewers will notice several differences between the original
2014 version and this new re-edited edition.

The first half of the film is definitely tense, but the second half loses some of
that intensity. The story focuses on a conflict — not a direct fight — between Daniel
Balaji, who plays a dangerous Chennai gangster, and Tanya Ravichandran, a government
hospital doctor. Their clash, triggered by ego, slowly turns into a strong desire for
revenge, which forms the main plot.

Usually, Tamil films give the big interval punch through a hero’s dialogue, but here,
it’s the heroine who delivers a strong mass line before the break. Tanya performs this
scene impressively, making it a refreshing moment.

The latest Zee5 series, Regai, based on popular Tamil crime writer Rajesh Kumar’s
novels, isn’t exactly a page-turner. You don’t feel the need to rush through it,
but you also don’t want to leave it halfway.

Unlike many of Rajesh Kumar’s novels, the show starts with a mysterious death
involving some science. The crime happens in a small town far from Chennai, in
Tirunelveli. Inspector Vetri (Bala Hasan) of Courtallam, who is waiting to be
transferred to the bomb squad in Chennai, is asked to investigate. The case is
personal for him because he had mentored the murder victim. As he investigates,
he uncovers more about the victim and a series of other deaths.

Tamil web series creators, especially in crime or supernatural genres, often
like to set stories in the TTK region (Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, and
Kanniyakumari). Regai follows this trend, and its setting doesn’t feel out of
place because it matches Rajesh Kumar’s style of introducing crimes in small
towns.

However, the series sometimes awkwardly switches between normal Tamil and the
local Nellai Tamil. It seems like the creators are trying too hard to make the
story feel authentically Tirunelveli, with characters suddenly using words like
‘Kottikaaran’ instead of ‘Paithiyakaaran’. This effort can feel a little forced
at times.

Imagine scrolling through these popular videos, seeing how viral they are, and
noticing how much attention the people in them are getting. Attention is something
everyone wants, and many try to be the centre of it.

You also want attention and think your video could go viral. You wait a day or
two, planning your move, but by then a new trend has already started. People
who joined the earlier trend look at you strangely.

This is similar to what happened with Keerthy Suresh’s latest film, Revolver Rita.
It is a dark comedy, a genre that has already become common in Tamil cinema, and
it comes at a time when the audience might feel tired of it.

This idea is central to Mask, the first film by director Vikarnan Ashok.
The movie looks at right, wrong, and everything in between, using a money
heist as the main story. While the film is stylish, it doesn’t have enough
depth or substance to fully explore its themes.

Director Prashanth Raman tries something a little different by showing how
passengers often treat cab drivers badly, using comedy to make the point.
Some of these scenes work well. Linga plays the confused, innocent man
nicely, rather than acting like a smart hero. The gangsters switch between
scary and silly, and the movie struggles to decide if it wants to be serious
or funny. This mixed tone makes the film feel unsure of itself.

The first half keeps some suspense about who will get the drugs and whether
Linga will make it out alive. But the second half loses energy, with too many
similar chase scenes and dull conversations. Saara Aachar’s character suddenly
disappears halfway through, with no explanation. The film repeatedly builds up
the mystery of “Who is Dawood?”

Rakesh Ambigapathy’s background music tries hard to make the scenes exciting,
even when they are not. The final twist is surprising for a moment, showing
that the film had a good idea somewhere. But by then, the predictable and
uneven story has already made you lose interest.

The first half slowly introduces the many characters. Anandaraj plays
Pungavanam with both danger and warmth, and he brings good comedy as
well as emotional moments. Samyuktha, who plays a police inspector,
adds strong intensity and gives a good balance to the gangster world.
Munishkanth provides some funny scenes, but the movie doesn’t always
shift smoothly between comedy and seriousness. The world-building feels
lively, but the story starts becoming familiar too quickly.

In the second half, the conflict grows but in predictable ways. Power
fights become bigger, loyalties shift, and the clash between Pungavanam
and the police increases. However, the script rarely tries something new.
The movie tries to add emotion and talk about loyalty and consequences,
but the storytelling feels uneven—some scenes work well, others don’t.
The climax is energetic but follows a typical template.

Technically, the cinematography shows the rough and colorful feel of
North Chennai nicely. Srikanth Deva’s music fits the mass moments with
strong beats and folk-style tunes. Overall, the performances—especially
Anandaraj’s—are stronger than the script supporting them.
