Four years later, a British Columbia Supreme Court judge ruled that Gurkaran Singh, Abhijeet Singh, and Khushveer Toor played a willing role in the couple’s murder. TVK won 108 seats, becoming the single largest party in the state. This result surprised many political analysts, as several opinion polls had predicted a different outcome.

The ruling alliance led by Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) came second with 73 seats, while All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) was pushed to third place with 53 seats.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh criticized the government’s “4C policy” – Continuing Calibrated Capitulation to China – and highlighted concerns over India’s growing dependency on China.
