The National Testing Agency (NTA) has sent reminder messages through SMS, email, and WhatsApp to candidates for the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination on June 21. The agency urged students to download their admit cards and warned against fake messages.

Originally held on May 3, the exam was canceled due to allegations of a paper leak, which is now under investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). NTA assured candidates that genuine messages will come from “NICPEP” for SMS and “no-reply.neet.nta@nic.in” for emails. The official website for downloading admit cards is http://neet.nta.nic.in.

The advisory emphasized that NTA will never ask for payments, share exam papers, or send links for admit cards. Candidates should only trust messages with a blue verified tick from “National Testing Agency.” WhatsApp updates are purely informational and will not request personal details or OTPs.

Students who have already downloaded their admit cards do not need to download them again. The new admit cards are for those who haven’t done so yet, as many have been assigned new test centers. Old admit cards from May 3 are no longer valid.

NTA advised candidates to download and print the new admit card once, only from the official website. Suspicious messages should be reported through designated platforms or cybercrime helplines.

The program enabled participants to seamlessly integrate academic learning with their ongoing roles at AM/NS India. Leveraging the program’s flexible multi-modal delivery system, employees completed their graduation while continuing to contribute to critical business operations, reinforcing the organisation’s strong culture of learning and performance.

The graduating batch, representing key divisions such as Steelmaking and Digital Technology, has already delivered measurable business impact. Through their capstone projects, participants addressed operational bottlenecks, enhanced efficiencies, and contributed to continuous improvement initiatives across the organisation.

Shri Anupam Singh Gahlaut, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Surat, said: “I congratulate the graduating professionals on this significant achievement. Balancing demanding professional responsibilities with academic excellence reflects strong discipline and commitment. I encourage all graduates to continue striving for excellence, contribute meaningfully to their organisations and society, and play their part in building a Viksit Bharat by 2047.”

Ashutosh Telang, Director & VP – HR & Administration, ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India), said: “At AM/NS India, continuous learning is central to how we build capability and drive performance. This milestone reflects our commitment to developing leaders who can seamlessly integrate business insight with technological and operational excellence. Through our collaboration with BITS Pilani, we are strengthening a future-ready talent pipeline that will accelerate innovation and contribute significantly to our journey of building a world-class steel enterprise in India.”

Prof. S Gurunarayanan, Dy. Director, Off-Campus Programmes & Industry Engagement, BITS Pilani, said, “At BITS Pilani WILP, our academic philosophy is rooted in co-creating specialized curricula that address the evolving intellectual demands of core industries. Our partnership with AM/NS India exemplifies the true spirit of work-integrated learning merging academic excellence with industry-leading practices. In today’s dynamic industrial landscape, leadership requires more than traditional management skills; it demands a deep understanding of technological evolution and sustainable growth. These MBA graduates will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in driving AM/NS India’s strategic and operational success.”

In India, hospital discharge is often seen as the end of treatment—but in reality, it marks the beginning of a crucial and often neglected phase of recovery. The transition from hospital to home remains one of the weakest links in the healthcare continuum, contributing to complications, delayed healing, and avoidable readmissions.
India’s ageing population is rapidly increasing, with projections indicating a rise from nearly 160 million seniors today to about 350 million by 2050. At the same time, surgeries such as knee and hip replacements, cardiac procedures, and neurological treatments are becoming more common. However, post-discharge support systems have not kept pace.

According to NITI Aayog, nearly 24% of elderly individuals face limitations in daily activities and require structured clinical support. Without it, patients risk infections, medication errors, mobility setbacks, and incomplete recovery. Globally, 15–20% of patients are readmitted within 30 days, often due to inadequate post-hospital care—a risk that is even higher in India.

While home care is widely preferred, most households lack essential medical infrastructure, trained nursing support, and rehabilitation consistency. Families are often unprepared to manage complex recovery needs, leading to fragmented care.

This gap is driving the emergence of post-operative and transition care centres—facilities that offer hospital-grade monitoring in a more comfortable, recovery-focused setting. These centres provide structured rehabilitation, nursing care, and medical supervision for patients recovering from orthopaedic, cardiac, and neurological conditions.

Despite insurance policies covering post-hospitalisation care, awareness remains low, preventing many patients from accessing these benefits.

Organised providers like Antara Care Homes are addressing this need by building integrated recovery ecosystems with specialised clinical teams and infrastructure designed for senior care. Their model focuses on continuity of care, improved outcomes, and reduced readmission rates.

As healthcare evolves, India must shift its focus beyond treatment to recovery. Hospital discharge is not the end—it is the starting point of healing, and bridging this gap is essential for better patient outcomes.

The All India Distillers’ Association (AIDA), India’s apex body representing the ethanol, bioenergy and potable alcohol sector, has welcomed the launch of India’s first mass-market flex fuel vehicle by Maruti Suzuki which will run on 100 percent pure ethanol, calling it a defining moment in India’s transition towards cleaner, self-reliant and farmer-driven mobility solutions.

In a significant development for the country’s ethanol ecosystem, several AIDA members are also set to become among the early purchasers and adopters of the newly launched flex fuel vehicle, reinforcing the industry’s confidence in ethanol-led mobility and clean fuel technologies.

The launch marks a major step towards mainstreaming flex fuel mobility in India and aligns closely with the Government of India’s long-term vision for energy security, import reduction, lower vehicular emissions and accelerated adoption of cleaner transportation alternatives.

For years, AIDA has consistently advocated for the expansion of flex fuel vehicles (FFVs) and the wider adoption of ethanol-based mobility solutions as part of India’s clean energy transition. The Association has actively engaged with policymakers, industry stakeholders, automobile manufacturers and the broader ecosystem to highlight the environmental, economic and strategic advantages of ethanol-blended and flex fuel technologies.

Vijendra Singh, President, AIDA commented “The growing participation of automobile manufacturers, fuel retailers, ethanol producers, policymakers and industry stakeholders clearly reflects the strong national momentum behind cleaner mobility solutions. The fact that AIDA member companies themselves are becoming early adopters of these vehicles sends a strong signal of confidence in the future of flex fuel mobility in India.”

Speaking on the development, Mr. Kushal Mittal, Vice President, AIDA, said: “The launch of a mass-market flex fuel vehicle is not just an automotive milestone , it is a transformational moment for India’s clean energy journey. Ethanol-based mobility has the potential to significantly reduce crude oil dependence, lower carbon emissions and create sustainable economic opportunities for Indian farmers and rural communities.”

Ms. Bharati Balaji, Deputy Director General, AIDA added “India today is not only focusing on ethanol supply expansion, but is also actively working towards creating robust demand-side adoption through initiatives like flex fuel mobility. This balanced ecosystem approach is critical for the long-term success and scalability of the ethanol programme.”

AIDA noted that the expansion of flex fuel vehicles can play a transformative role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving air quality by enabling higher ethanol usage in transportation fuels. Increased ethanol adoption also creates stronger domestic demand for agricultural feedstocks such as maize and sugarcane, thereby supporting farmer incomes, rural employment and agricultural value chains.

The Association further stated that the initiative strongly complements the national vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat by strengthening India’s domestic biofuel ecosystem, reducing reliance on imported fossil fuels and accelerating the country’s transition towards sustainable and indigenous energy solutions.

AIDA acknowledges the continued policy support and strategic impetus being provided by the Government of India towards ethanol blending, biofuels, and alternative fuel mobility. The launch witnessed participation from a diverse range of stakeholders across the automotive, energy, ethanol, and policy ecosystem, underscoring the collaborative approach driving India’s transition towards cleaner, more sustainable mobility solutions.

As India advances towards higher ethanol blending targets and cleaner transportation pathways, AIDA reaffirmed its commitment to support the development of a robust, scalable and future-ready ethanol economy for the nation.

US Trade Representative Proposes Additional Tariffs on India and 53 Other Countries Over Forced Labor Imports
The U.S. Trade Representative has proposed imposing an extra 12.5% tax on imports from 54 countries, including India, for not stopping the import of goods made using forced labor.
This move comes after investigations into 60 countries were launched due to their failure to enforce bans on products made with forced labor. U.S. Trade Representative Ambassador Jamieson Greer stated that this failure is unacceptable and puts American workers at a disadvantage in global trade.
India has denied the allegations and asked the U.S. to stop the investigations, suggesting these issues should be discussed during ongoing trade talks. Greer noted that while some countries have started taking steps to prevent forced labor imports, more action is needed globally.
The USTR found that 54 countries, including India, China, Japan, Brazil, Australia, the UK, and Saudi Arabia, have not effectively enforced bans on forced labor imports. Additionally, six economies—Canada, Ecuador, the European Union, Indonesia, Mexico, and Pakistan—were identified as failing to properly enforce such prohibitions.
For countries that have committed to enforcing these bans through trade agreements, the USTR proposed a 10% additional duty. For all other countries, including India, the proposed tax is 12.5%.
The USTR also introduced a plan to allow some textile and clothing imports from certain countries at lower tariffs. Interested parties are invited to submit comments and appear at hearings by July 7.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that the southwest monsoon is expected to reach Kerala by June 4. Earlier, IMD had predicted it would arrive by May 26, but this did not happen. The typical date for the monsoon’s arrival in Kerala is June 1.

Last year, the monsoon arrived on May 24, which was its earliest arrival since 2009. While the exact date of arrival does not determine how much rain there will be, this year IMD has warned that rainfall is likely to be below normal.

IMD stated that weather conditions are favorable for the monsoon to advance further into parts of the Arabian Sea, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu over the next few days.

IMD’s historical records show that its forecasts for the monsoon’s arrival date in Kerala have been accurate 95% of the time since 2005, except in 2015. This year, IMD has lowered its rainfall forecast to 90% of the long-term average, down from its earlier prediction of 92%.

If this season’s rainfall is less than 90% of the long-term average, it will be classified as “deficient.” One reason for the below-normal rainfall could be the development of El Nino conditions, which often lead to reduced monsoon rainfall in India. IMD noted that neutral weather patterns are gradually shifting toward weak El Nino conditions, with stronger conditions expected by September.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 19, 2026, for raising fuel prices and handling the Adani case. He accused the BJP of poor planning and leadership.

Petrol and diesel prices were increased by about 90 paise per liter, the second hike in less than a week after state-run oil companies stopped their four-year price freeze. Kharge claimed Modi’s government is failing to protect public interests while favoring businesses like Adani.

He referred to the U.S. Department of Justice dropping all criminal charges against Gautam Adani and his nephew Sagar, ending a high-profile fraud case. Kharge also criticized Modi for seeking American permission to buy Russian oil, saying it humiliates India.

Kharge questioned why fuel prices are rising if India is allowed to purchase Russian oil. He called Modi’s approach compromised and accused the BJP of lacking foresight and leadership.

The U.S. sanctions waiver for buying Russian oil expired on May 16, but India continues to buy Russian oil based on commercial needs. Kharge said BJP leaders were focused on elections during the crisis and failed to act responsibly.

He urged Modi to focus on solving real issues instead of personal image-building. Kharge emphasized that Modi must be accountable to the people and address their concerns to truly serve as their leader.

The Supreme Court on May 19, 2026, overturned a 2024 Madras High Court decision that had acquitted nine people charged with the 2013 murder of neurosurgeon S.D. Subbaiah near Billroth Hospital in Raja Annamalaipuram, Chennai.

A Bench led by Justices M.M. Sundresh and S.C. Sharma upheld the trial court’s conviction of the accused, including P. Ponnusamy, his wife Mary Pushpam, and their sons P. Basil and P. Boris. The trial court had sentenced seven of them to death in August 2021, while Ms. Pushpam and another accused received life imprisonment.

The State of Tamil Nadu, represented by lawyers Siddharth Luthra, MF Philip, and Purnima Krishna, had appealed to the Supreme Court against the High Court’s acquittal of all nine accused.

According to the prosecution, Dr. Subbaiah was attacked by a three-person gang as he prepared to leave his car near R.A Puram in Chennai on September 14, 2013. He died nine days later due to his injuries. After his death, police upgraded the initial charges from attempted murder (Section 307) to murder (Section 302) and arrested ten people, with one turning state witness.

The police alleged that Ponnusamy and his family had hired the gang to kill Dr. Subbaiah due to a property dispute.

The Supreme Court rejected requests to change its November 2025 order, which requires all states and union territories in India to remove stray dogs from public areas like schools, hospitals, sports complexes, bus depots, and railway stations. The court emphasized that the right to live with dignity includes protection from the threat of dog bites, which have affected children, elderly people, and international travelers.

The bench of Justices Vikram Nath, Sandeep Mehta, and N.V. Anjaria stated that the Constitution does not allow a society where vulnerable groups must rely on others’ mercy for safety. They highlighted the severity of the issue, noting that repeated incidents reflect failures in implementing the Animal Birth Control (ABC) Rules, 2023, under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.

The court urged states and union territories to work together to improve infrastructure and address the stray dog problem effectively. Officials who fail to follow these instructions could face contempt charges or disciplinary action. The order was part of the court’s own initiative to create a national framework for managing stray dogs and ensuring compliance with existing laws.

In January, the court had expressed dissatisfaction with how Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu were implementing its November 2025 directions. The current ruling reinforces the need for strict adherence to the guidelines.
