Grand Opening to Philip Capital National Masters Athletics

Senthil Kumar N of TN and Bulti Roy of WB emerged winners among the 30+ men and women’s respectively in the Philip Capital 42nd National Masters Athletics Championship, which was flagged off at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, here, on Wednesday evening.

While Sethil stopped the clock at 52.6 secs, Bulti clocked 1:04.9 to breast the tape first.

The host state also had success in the 35+ women’s 400 with Francis Merry P winning in 1:07.9, while the men’s 35+ 400 was won by Karnataka’s Raghunandan G in a time of 54.0 secs.

The high jump for 35+ was won by Sangeetha M G of TN, who leapt to a height of 1.48 mts, while among the 40+ women the honour went again to TN’s Sankareswari P with a jump of 1.14 mts.

The Philip Capital 42nd National Masters Athletics Championship 2022. Chennai, organized by the Masters Athletic Federation of India, affiliated to the Asian Masters Athletics and the World Athletics will see more than 3500 athletes competing from across 28 States in India, with a total of 22 Athletic disciplines across 13 age categories, making it the largest athletic competition.

Mr. D David Premnath ,Secretary General of Masters Athletics Federation of India said, “Adapting to the new normal and reviving back to sport from the unprecedented impacts of the COVID-19 Pandemic is the need of the hour, building immunity, resilience and redefining sport through advocacy with a positive approach, ensuring that the world of sport and the Masters Movement continues to make its vital and valued contributions in building hope and a better sporting future for all.”
