Madras High Court Supports Chennai Eco-Park Plan

The Madras High Court has said that Chennai urgently needs the proposed
eco-park and several ponds on the 160.86-acre government land in Guindy,
which was leased to the Madras Race Club (MRC) during the British era.
These measures are needed to prevent disasters like the massive floods in 2015.

A Division Bench of Justices S.M. Subramaniam and Mohammed Shaffiq said,
“The eco-park will serve many purposes. First, it will help reduce the risk
of flooding, which the city faces more with each monsoon. Second, it is
important to address air pollution and improve the Air Quality Index (AQI),
which is a key reason for creating the eco-park.”
