After nearly five years, the Water Resources Department (WRD) will begin
work in January to install artificial recharge shafts in 23 districts.
These shafts will help increase groundwater levels in areas where water
is overused or in critical condition.
Although artificial recharge shafts have been installed before, the WRD’s
State Ground and Surface Water Resources Data Centre will now carry out the
project on a much larger scale to improve the groundwater table.
