Dulquer’s Kaantha Starts Slow at Box Office

Dulquer Salmaan’s much-awaited period drama Kaantha has finally released in
theatres, but early numbers show that the opening is not very strong.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the Tamil film—released on over
2,000 screens in India in Tamil and Telugu—earned around Rs 4 crore on its
first day.

On Day 1, the movie had an overall 21.68% occupancy in Tamil Nadu. Morning
shows started with 14.6%, went up to 19.06% in the afternoon, slightly dropped
to 18.62% in the evening, and then increased to 34.44% for night shows.

Chennai, which had the most shows (373), saw a good 29.5% occupancy. However,
Bengaluru, with 205 shows, had a low 9.5% occupancy.

In the Telugu market, Kaantha had 19.46% occupancy, which is considered
low, especially since Dulquer Salmaan has a large fan base in that region.
