Nikkhil Advani Shares Challenges of Freedom Series

When Nikkhil Advani was first asked to turn Larry Collins and Dominique Lapierre’s famous historical book into a series called “Freedom at Midnight,” he was honest about his doubts. The story is huge and complex, covering the final days of British rule in India and the creation of India and Pakistan, and it seemed almost impossible to bring to the screen.

As season two of the series is set to release soon, Advani spoke about the creative and logistical challenges he faced while making the show. For example, filming at Rashtrapati Bhavan (the official presidential residence) was not allowed. To overcome this, the team used Umaid Bhawan Palace to recreate historical scenes and capture the grandeur needed for the story.

Advani also shared insights about the choices made to keep the story authentic, while managing the difficulties of filming such a large-scale historical drama. His work reflects the effort needed to bring history to life for viewers while respecting real locations and events.
