The Oscars will include a new award for achievement in casting during their
live broadcast in 2026. The 98th Academy Awards will take place on March 15,
the academy told The Associated Press on Wednesday.
With this addition, the total number of awards shown on the broadcast will be
24, including prizes for best picture, best actor, and best actress.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences had announced the new award
last year. This is the first new category added since 2001, when the best
animated feature award was introduced. Earlier this year, the academy also
announced plans to add a stunt design award starting with the 100th Oscars
in 2028.
