Zach Cregger’s ‘Resident Evil’ Premiere Reactions

The Resident Evil franchise is returning to the big screen with a new action-horror movie based on the popular video game series. Sony recently held the film’s world premiere at The United Theater in Los Angeles, where selected audiences and members of the press got an early look at the movie.

After the premiere, some audience members began sharing their first reactions on social media. Sony allowed people who attended the event to post short comments about their experience after watching the film.

However, full reviews were kept under an embargo. Attendees were not allowed to publish detailed reviews until 9 a.m. Pacific Time on September 16. This gave audiences an opportunity to share their immediate reactions while keeping complete reviews until the official review window opened.

The new film continues the long-running Resident Evil movie series, which takes inspiration from the video games of the same name. The franchise is known for combining horror, action, survival elements and dangerous creatures.

The movie is also scheduled to appear at the 2026 Fantastic Fest on September 17, giving festival audiences another opportunity to watch it before its wider release.

Following the festival screening, the film is scheduled for a global theatrical release on September 18. Fans of the video game series and previous Resident Evil films will be watching closely to see how the new movie approaches the franchise and its familiar horror themes.

With early audience reactions already appearing online, interest in the film is expected to grow ahead of its worldwide theatrical release.
