Prawn Pollichathu is a delicious Malabari seafood dish made with juicy prawns cooked in spices, herbs, and coconut milk.
Ingredients:
For Marination:
6 Prawns
Chili Powder (as desired)
Turmeric Powder (as desired)
Salt (as desired)
Lime Juice (as desired)
2 tsp Coconut Oil
For Masala:
3 tsp Coconut Oil
1/4 tsp Mustard Seeds
1/4 tsp Fenugreek Seeds
5–6 Curry Leaves
2 Green Chillies, slit
1 tsp Ginger, chopped
1/2 tsp Garlic, chopped
1/2 Onion, chopped
10 Shallots, uncut
1 Tbsp Coriander Powder
1 tsp Red Chili Powder
1/4 tsp Black Pepper, crushed
1/4 tsp Turmeric Powder
1/2 Tomato, chopped
1/2 cup Fish Stock
1/4 cup Coconut Milk
Salt to taste
How to Make Prawn Pollichathu:
Step 1: Marinate Prawns
Mix chili powder, turmeric, salt, and lime juice in a bowl.
Add prawns and marinate for 10 minutes.
Heat 2 tsp coconut oil in a pan and lightly sauté the marinated prawns on low heat for 5 minutes.
Remove prawns and keep aside.
Step 2: Prepare the Masala
Heat 3 tsp coconut oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds and fenugreek seeds and let them crackle.
Add curry leaves, green chillies, ginger, garlic, onion, and shallots. Sauté until onions turn brown.
Add coriander powder, red chili powder, black pepper, turmeric, tomato, and fish stock. Mix well.
Add the prawns, cover, and cook for 5 minutes. Remove the lid and cook for another 5 minutes.
Step 3: Finish the Dish
Let the gravy reduce to semi-dry consistency. Cook until prawns turn dark brown.
Add coconut milk and cook for 30 seconds.
Add salt to taste.
Serve hot with aapam, rice, or paratha.
