Experts Warn About AI Errors in Healthcare

In the past ten years, artificial intelligence (AI) has become very popular, and people have made big claims about what it can do. But even with all the excitement, AI often makes mistakes. For example, an AI assistant might misunderstand what someone is saying, a chatbot could give wrong information, or an AI navigation tool might even direct a driver through a cornfield – all without noticing the error.

People often accept these mistakes because AI can make certain tasks faster and easier. However, some experts are now pushing to use AI in areas where errors could be very serious, like in health care.

For instance, in early 2025, a bill was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives that would allow AI systems to prescribe medicines on their own, without a human doctor supervising. This idea has sparked a lot of debate among lawmakers and health researchers. They are discussing whether it is safe or practical to let AI make such important decisions.

While AI can be very helpful, many experts warn that mistakes could have serious consequences, especially in fields like medicine, where people’s lives are at stake. This shows that while AI is powerful, it still needs careful monitoring and human guidance in critical areas.
