Narendra Modi on Saturday, February 28, 2026, launched a nationwide vaccination campaign against the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) for 14-year-old girls. The programme was started from Ajmer in Rajasthan.
The campaign aims to protect young girls from cervical cancer, which is mainly caused by the Human Papillomavirus (HPV). The official launch event was held in Kayad, Ajmer, where several girls received the HPV vaccine in the presence of the Prime Minister.
During the programme, Prime Minister Modi interacted with the girls and their families. He spoke about the importance of preventive healthcare and said that vaccination plays a key role in protecting future generations from serious diseases. He also encouraged parents to ensure that their daughters receive the vaccine on time.
The HPV vaccine helps prevent cervical cancer, one of the most common cancers affecting women in India. Health experts say that vaccinating girls at a young age can greatly reduce the risk of developing the disease later in life.
The nationwide campaign is expected to cover thousands of schools and health centres across the country. The government aims to raise awareness about cervical cancer and ensure that eligible girls receive the vaccine free of cost.
The launch of this campaign is seen as a major step towards improving women’s health and strengthening India’s public healthcare system.
