A month after reports of children dying from contaminated cough syrups in
Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, the Telangana Drugs Control Administration
(DCA) has issued a new order. It says that all batches of important ingredients
like glycerin, propylene glycol, and sorbitol solution — which are used to make
liquid medicines — must be bought only from suppliers registered on the national
Digital Monitoring System. This rule is part of a detailed follow-up notice sent
to all companies that make liquid oral medicines.
