Smriti Mandhana made history by becoming the first woman in cricket to score 11,000 international runs. The Indian opener achieved this milestone during a gold medal match against Sri Lanka at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin.
Mandhana entered the game needing just 13 more runs to reach her target. She quickly got going and crossed the 11,000-run mark in her first 10 deliveries of the match. In the first over, she hit two fours off Sri Lanka’s Sugandika Kumari. Two overs later, she struck two sixes against the same bowler to reach the milestone.
Mandhana has been in great form recently. She scored a century and a half-century during the women’s Asia Cup final and continued her good form at the Asian Games 2026. Notably, she also scored 59 runs against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup final.
In the match against Sri Lanka, Mandhana and Shafali Verma gave India a strong start by scoring 99 runs for the first wicket. Although Shafali fell just short of a half-century, Mandhana continued her impressive form and reached her 37th T20I fifty in just 31 balls.
Mandhana also teamed up with Harmanpreet Kaur to score 42 runs for the second wicket, setting India up for a big total. She was eventually dismissed for 79 runs in the 17th over by Sugandika. Mandhana faced 45 deliveries, hitting five fours and seven sixes in her innings.
