Vijay Eyes Chennai Seats for Assembly Polls

Chennai: Most of the senior leaders of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), including party president Vijay, are planning to contest the upcoming Assembly elections from constituencies in and around Chennai.

Party sources said Vijay had first prepared a list of five possible constituencies. These included Velachery and Virugambakkam in Chennai city, Vikravandi where the party conducted its first political conference, and Nagapattinam and Trichy East in other parts of the State.

However, the list has now been reduced to two main options — Velachery and Virugambakkam. Leaders said these constituencies are being seriously considered as they are located in Chennai, where the party has strong support and better visibility.

Interestingly, a party leader mentioned that there is a “sentimental” reason behind the final choice. Both Velachery and Virugambakkam begin with the letter “V”, which matches Vijay’s name. Some leaders believe this could bring good luck and create a stronger connection with voters.

There are also internal discussions within the party about whether Vijay should contest from two constituencies instead of one. Contesting from two seats is sometimes done by senior leaders to increase their chances of winning and to show their strength in different regions.

Other senior members of the party are also likely to choose seats in and around Chennai, as the city is seen as an important political base for TVK. Leaders believe focusing on urban constituencies could help the party gain more attention and support in the elections.

An official announcement regarding Vijay’s final choice of constituency is expected soon.
