A group of 24 Nigerian schoolgirls who were kidnapped more than a week ago have been released, the country’s president announced.
Armed men attacked a boarding school in Kebbi State on 17 November. They killed two staff members and kidnapped around 25 students. Two of the girls managed to escape shortly after the attack.
President Bola Tinubu thanked the security forces for acting quickly, although it is still not clear how the girls were freed.
Nigeria has seen many kidnappings in recent years. More than 250 children who were taken from a Catholic school last Friday are still missing.
