60-Foot Temple Chariot Falls, Seven Hurt

VELLORE: Seven people were seriously injured after a 60-foot-tall temple chariot fell over during the annual Mayana Kollai festival in Vellore district.

The incident happened on the banks of the Palar River, where a large number of devotees had gathered for the festival celebrations. The temple chariot, which is usually pulled by devotees as part of the ritual, suddenly toppled, causing panic at the venue.

Those who were injured were quickly rescued and taken to the Government Medical College Hospital in Adukkamparai for treatment. Doctors are providing medical care, and their condition is being closely monitored.

Police and local officials reached the spot soon after the accident. An inquiry is expected to find out the reason for the chariot toppling and to ensure safety measures are followed in future events.

The Mayana Kollai festival is an important local religious celebration that attracts many people every year.
