The Election Commission of India (ECI) released the final electoral roll for Tamil Nadu on Monday, February 23, after completing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. According to the updated list, the state now has a total of 5.67 crore registered voters.
The revision exercise was carried out to update the voter list by adding new eligible voters, removing names of ineligible persons, and correcting errors in details. Officials said the process was conducted as per guidelines to ensure the electoral roll is accurate and ready for upcoming elections.
However, a controversy has emerged from the Manjolai estate area, which comes under the Ambasamudram Assembly constituency in Tirunelveli district. Around 650 residents from the area have reportedly found that their names are missing from the final voter list.
The residents claim that they had submitted Form-6 applications, which are used to request inclusion of names in the electoral roll. Despite submitting the required forms and documents, they allege that their names were not added to the final list.
Local residents and representatives have raised concerns about the issue and are seeking clarification from election officials. They have requested that authorities review the applications and ensure that all eligible voters are included in the roll.
Election officials are expected to look into the matter. The issue has drawn attention as it affects a significant number of voters from a single area, raising questions about the verification and inclusion process during the revision exercise.
